Firm History

Founded in 1965, CEC is an EDGE/DBE firm specializing in the transportation field of Civil Engineering. The firm won the 2011 Design Award in the Historic Bridge Category (for HOC-CR33A-0110; see descriptions below), jointly awarded by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Ohio Historical Society. CEC is also well-known for pioneering Automated Detailing & Drafting (ADD) technology, successfully developing the cecBRIDGE Suite Drafting Service and Software for six types of bridges most commonly used by ODOT.

CEC currently employs, full-time, 27 professional, technical, and administrative staff, including four civil engineers who hold doctorate degrees. Our staff members are always encouraged to attend seminars and other educational programs to enhance their knowledge and improve their skills. CEC has a reputation for design excellence, efficiency, precision and innovation. We have established ambitious goals, and treat our clients with the highest respect and professionalism, from initial contract negotiations through final design document preparation.

Over the past 45 years, the firm has completed more than 400 transportation projects, including urban streets, county roads, interstate and state highways, and bridges with lengths up to 1,400 feet. The firm uses the latest in surveying and utility-locating equipment, and CADD software. Designs can be furnished in AutoCAD or MicroStation format. CEC’s capabilities and capacity are enhanced by the staff’s mastery of design elements and a focus on process efficiency to produce plans of the highest quality in the shortest time possible.

CEC is known by ODOT and Ohio county engineers to be an innovative and reliable bridge and roadway design firm, consistently meeting project requirements, schedules, and budgets.

Jack Jang, P.E., Ph.D., became President and CEO of Columbus Engineering in 1989.
